There
are two ways to effectively motivate our elected representatives
in Washington.
The
first is the easiest. Contribute the most campaign funding.
If you have the means to raise thousands of dollars,
better yet, tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands
of dollars for the men and women running for Congress
and President, then you can be assured your interests
will be a top priority. You will be able to regularly
meet in-person with your Senators, Congressmen and even
the President and Vice President, and more importantly
youšll have direct access to the people on their staff
who get things done. Best of all, they will want to
help you and make you happy.
If
youšre like the vast majority of Americans, paying for
your influence will not be an option and you will have
to rely on the democratic principles of representative
government. That means making your voice as a citizen
heard by writing and calling your elected officials.
When
enough individuals with the same viewpoint communicate
this way we become "The Voice of The People" and are
then too powerful to ignore.
It
doesnšt take a tidal wave of letters, email or phone
calls to get their attention in the nationšs capitol.
Several hundred people wrote and called to complain
about the 2000 Census forms and it made national news
for weeks.
