In
1995 our experience in the entertainment, licensing, and consumer
products industries helped us recognize the need for a national
line of branded, high quality, National Park themed merchandise
to both improve the image of the parks and to generate additional
funding for them.
We
traveled all over America searching out the kind of products
worthy of representing the parks and when we couldn't find
products good enough we designed and manufactured them ourselves.
We spent two years building our First Edition Collection.
In
1997 we created and published the first and only National
Park catalog. We designed and produced it ourselves and for
the first time ever people could bring the spirit and beauty
of the parks home and into their everyday lives.
We
founded our company in Oregon because the people of this great
state embody our company's values when it comes to preserving,
protecting and appreciating their public lands. Here out West
we treasure our great wilderness spaces and we folks understand
why both Mike and I devote our lives and resources to celebrate
and support them.
To
make sure that a portion of everything we sell is donated
to help individual National Parks, we created the Every
Sale Supports Our Parks program whereby we voluntarily
contribute 5% of the gross profits, from every sale we make,
back to the parks.
To
celebrate the publication of our First Edition catalog in
July 1997, before we made our first sale, we raised and donated
$10,000 to the Yosemite Fund's storm recovery program. Since
then we've donated over $15,000 in additional contributions
generated from sales of our products.
We've
also donated our time, services and products to groups like
the National Park Foundation, the Yosemite Fund and the Association
of National Park Rangers. It's been our pleasure.
We'll
celebrate our third anniversary on July 1, 2000 as a growing
presence throughout the National Parks community. Our product
line has grown to over 500 different items to become America's
premier collection of National Park art, limited edition collectibles,
vintage memorabilia, jewelry, home furnishings, books, gifts,
multimedia products and custom park apparel.
Our
intellectual properties, including our substantial collection
of original vintage park art and memorabilia, are also working
on behalf of the parks generating additional revenue through
their use in licensed products.
In
Spring, 2000 Gibbs Smith published our first two books, Greetings
From Yosemite, and Greetings From Grand Canyon, the beginning
of a new series designed and written by our Parks Company
founding partners and featuring vintage National Park post
cards from our collection.
As
a result of our networking efforts and travels to National
Parks across the country we have developed productive relationships
with the nonprofit on-the-ground support groups who know and
serve the parks best. We now work directly with these groups
to make our contributions to the parks. We have already increased
the immediate effectiveness of our donations as a result.
